Top Pick!! Grand Timber Lodge

pool at the grand timber hotel in downtown breckenridge

Grand Timber Lodge wins our pick for the best bang for your hard earned money.  With ample underground parking in each building it makes it exceptionally easy to unload all your gear for a week’s stay and keeps your car warm and snow free in the winter.

There is a wide variety of amenity offerings from the refresh massage studio, complimentary ski lockers, private movie theater. The rooms are clean and well maintained, providing full kitchens in the larger rooms and kitchenettes in the smaller rooms.

It’s also close to the Breckenridge ski resort which allows a short walk to either the Snowflake lift or the Beaver Run Base Area. You can also take a shuttle to the mountain if you don’t feel like walking.

However, at the end of your ski day the resort does have a ski in option via a small maintained trail just off the lower sawmill trail.

Pros

  • Modern Rustic rooms with a kitchenette
  • Indoor and outdoor pools.
  • Bar located near the large outdoor pool for some adult beverages
  • Free shuttle to downtown and surrounding areas
  • Ski in

Cons

  • Close to town but a little too long of walk in the winter
  • Some buildings are not connected to the main lodge so walking outside is required to access all amenities.

**Local’s Tip** If you are interested in uphill access after dark with skis or splitboard, Peak 8 features a free uphill access route after the resort closes and just before the resort opens in the morning.

Grand Colorado on Peak 8

Grand Colorado on Peak 8 is one of Breckenridge’s premier lodging options that is located on a mountain. It’s a truly amazing ski in and ski out property in Breckenridge. The mountain facing rooms are amazing and even if you get a town side view the views are still breathtaking.

Pros

BOOK A ROOM AT THE GRAND HOTEL

Residence Inn by Marriott Breckenridge

residence inn -lodging in breckenridge

The Residence Inn by Marriott Breckenridge is exactly what you would expect for a Marriott property. If you are a loyal Marriott traveler this Hotel will meet your standard Marriott quality.

It’s nothing too special but it is very clean and located at the top end of town allowing very easy walking access to Downtown Breckenridge.

The big bonus for this property is if you are a Marriott member this property allows use of points for rooms. To be honest I would only stay at this hotel if I was trying to build more Marriott points or using points.  Otherwise, I would have to recommend either Grand Colorado on Peak 8 or Grand Timber Lodge to get a better Breckenridge experience.

Pros

  • Nice rooms with the expected Marriott quality
  • Outdoor Pool and Hottub with a nice mountain view
  • Located just steps from Downtown Breckenridge
  • Can use Marriott points to redeem room
  • Plenty of outdoor parking

Cons

  • Hotel feel and not a lodge feel like the other properties around town.

**Local’s Tip** Best hotel for walking access to Downtown Breck

DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Breckenridge

double tree by hilton hotel in breckenridge downtown

The DoubleTree by Hilton is located within walking distance of downtown and the Breckenridge ski resort. It’s almost a Ski In and Ski Out resort but you do have to cross one road to get to the slopes but certainly worth an honorable mention.

This property normally wouldn’t make our list but we wanted to give a Hilton property shout out so those business professionals with loads of Hilton Honors points can take advantage of free rooms.

We would normally suggest Hilton Grand Vacations Club Valdoro Mountain Lodge, however this property is normally booked up as the Hilton Grand Vacation owners take most of the rooms.

Pros

  • Walking distance to the slopes
  • Located just steps from Downtown Breckenridge
  • Can use Hilton Honors points to redeem room
  • Shuttle available to bring you to town if you don’t want to walk

Cons

  • No kitchenettes in the standard rooms
  • Very much a Hotel
  • Feels outdated
  • Very expensive considering other lodging offerings around town
  • Lacks quality amenities
