Winter is when Breckenridge truly comes alive. Thousands of tourist flock to the mountains to enjoy time on the slopes! Even if skiing isn’t your thing, there are plenty of other things to do in Breckenridge in the winter! Here’s some of our favorites!
Skiing and Snowboarding
Breckenridge is renowned for its world-class ski resort, making it a haven for winter sports enthusiasts. With over 2,900 acres of skiable terrain, it offers something for all skill levels.
However, if you aren’t a fan of flying down the slopes…you’ll find over 50 miles of groomed cross-country trails as well!
Snowshoeing
If you prefer a quieter, more peaceful experience in the snow, try snowshoeing. Breckenridge has numerous trails that wind through pristine forests and offer breathtaking views. Breckenridge Nordic Center is a great place to start as they have rentals and groomed trails on-site!
Ice Skating
Ice skating is a favorite among visitors. Glide over the frozen surface surrounded by the stunning snow-covered mountains. You can choose between the indoor and outdoor rinks at Stephen C. Ice Arena or the outdoor rink at Grand Colorado on Peak 8.
Dog Sledding

Top Things to do in Breckenridge in the Spring
Although the temperatures are rising, there will still be plenty of snow in Breckenridge in the spring! March and April are actually two of the snowiest months of the year! The ski resort typically stays open until mid-may even.
In addition to skiing and snowboarding, here are more of the top things to do in Breckenridge in the Spring.
Hiking
As the snow begins to melt, Breckenridge’s hiking trails come to life. Explore the wildflower-covered (late Spring) hillsides on trails like McCullough Gulch and Mohawk Lakes. I would still recommend packing your crampons/spikes as you’ll likely encounter snow/ice on many of the trails!
Rafting
Spring runoff creates ideal conditions for whitewater rafting. Take an adventurous ride down the Blue River, just a short drive from downtown Breckenridge. Although the Blue River is the closest to Breck, raft trips only take place when the water is just right.
There are many other nearby options such as the Arkansas River and Clear Creek River. Most rafting companies open in early May.
Breck Create Arts District

Ahhh sweet summertime. Technically the month of June is a major off-season month in Breck, but July and August are filled with festivals and outdoor fun.
Peak 8 Fun Park
The Peak 8 Fun Park is an amusement park for all ages. Enjoy the alpine slide, zip lines, and scenic chairlift rides. It opens June 30th with the season running until September 4th.
Mountain Biking
With the opening of the ski lifts for mountain biking, spring offers an opportunity for adrenaline junkies to hit the downhill trails. Or, for a more leisurely ride head to the Blue River Recreation Path for a ride on a nice paved trail through town!
Fishing
The Blue River and nearby alpine lakes offer excellent fishing opportunities. Hire a local guide for the best spots. If you prefer to rent gear and go by yourself just make sure to purchase your Colorado fishing license! You can do so online or in person at Breckenridge Outfitters.
Festivals
Summer in Breckenridge means all the festivals. Enjoy outdoor concerts and events like the Breckenridge Hog Fest, the Summer Beer Festival, and the Breckenridge International Festival of Arts.

Autumn is an ideal time to witness the golden aspens. Drive or hike along Boreas Pass Road for some of the most breathtaking views. Peak fall foliage typically falls around the 2nd week of September. However, this varies slightly each year.
Oktoberfest
Don’t miss the annual Breckenridge Oktoberfest, a lively celebration of Bavarian culture with live music, beer gardens, and delicious German food. In 2024, the festival will take place September 13th-15th.
